Oleg Cassini (1913 2006) was a fashion designer and the iconic style setter. He was of Russian origin, born in Paris as Oleg Cassini Loiewski, the son of Count and Countess Cassini, raised in Florence, Italy and moved to USA in 1936 where he began his career as a designer.
He started as a costume designer for big Hollywood studios, his first movie being I Wanted Wings from 1941. After World War II, he returned to New York as First Lieutenant Cassini and opened his own fashion house and designed elegant ready-to-wear dresses, while continuing to work for television and Broadway musicals. Later, he became the Secretary of Style for the White House and dresses Jacky Kennedy, perhaps the most famous First Lady. He designed a reported 300 outfits for her. The Camelot look that he created for her became very popular.
After two marriages (Mary Fahrney and the actress Gene Tierney), Cassini dated and almost married Grace Kelly and created the look for her. His style of timeless elegance was appreciated among the famous beauties of 20th and 21st century. Not only that he was the first celebrity designer, he also reinvented mens fashion by bringing color to shirts that were originally only white. In 1990s, he formed a partnership with Davids Bridal and designed wedding dresses until his death.
His first womens fragrance, named Cassini, was presented in 1990.
